Comments

Conceptually, I wonder about how to best relate the estimates of sub-tasks to their parent. My approach has been to use sub-task estimates to create a general estimate for the parent. One issue is how to deal with stories that were in an iteration but were not completed. If they get moved to the next iteration, I like to be able to reestimate the level of effort required. If the estimate is calculated straight from sub-tasks, should the estimate now automatically exclude sub-tasks that were completed in prior iterations? I think it's a little tricky. Again, my approach has been to just use sub-tasks as a helper in creating better estimates for the parent stories.

I think I'll make this a system configuration option.

This is being added to release 1.2.0 as a system configuration option. The default will be to calculate the story time based on from the summation of the estimates of sub-tasks.
