I second this emotion. I would suggest that if iteration functionality is enabled then issues get attached to iterations, otherwise the option is to attach them to a release.

It would be great if individual issues could be assigned to a release as opposed to everything in the iteration.

This would be a very helpful feature and would make planning much easier. With my team we define a release before defining individual iterations and this would go a long way to enabling that type of planning.

Glad to see this feature making it into 1.2.0. A small or one person team may not have the need for iterations. This would be very helpful.
