[Topic] License / Plans

Before getting too interested in AgileTrack, I am wondering what your plans are for the server version as far as availability / cost, etc… Thanks.

That's a good question. The AgileTrack server is currently breaking away from the client and future licensing plans are in the works, but undecided. Up to this point, the AgileTrack client and server have been considered "beta" versions, but they are closing in on sufficient functionality and stability to reach a first stable production version. When that happens, licensing will also change.

Free downloads of the client and server for the latest versions will be available. The client will remain open source.

It is expected that there will be a per user licensing scheme. A single user would be free, but additional users would require additional licenses. Additional free licenses would probably be granted to users who have contributed to AgileTrack's development in various ways—language translations, bug reports, etc.—or who are developing other open source projects. Additional licenses are expected to cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $75 per user. Licenses would be valid for at least a year.

These changes are expected to take place within a couple of months and are necessary to allow continued development of the software. Shortly after that transition, a web interface will begin to be developed and distributed with the server. Other potential customization would also be more feasible at that point, for example, integrating with other tracking databases.

Does that clarify things? Other questions or suggestions?
