0.8b: Login failed
0.8b uses a new mysql-connector and attempts to allow unicode support in the database by forcing the character encoding for the database connection. I think you're seeing a problem with some sort of collation value. I tried the changes with MySQL 4.0, 4.1, and 5.0, but I obviously missed a possibility with the configuration.
By the way, 0.8b would have done some schema updates to your database causing 0.8a to no longer be compatible, but since the connection failed immediately, no updates were made.
Please post some additional information about your database so I can try to create a configuration that is able to reproduce the problem.
Connect to MySQL and do a "SHOW VARIABLES". Post the output here. That would probably give enough information to solve the problem. Thanks.

No, this isn't the problem. I now changed it back to latin1_general_ci, but it didn't help. Another idea?
I searched for that SQLException an saw that xampp users sometimes encounter it. I'm not sure what the solution to the problem is because the MySQL connector is already specifying the characterEncoding explicitly. You stated by email that it's no longer a problem for you, so I won't worry about it.
